DigitalFoodLab Global Foodtech Investment Report 2024 now available

💰 In 2023, foodtech startups globally raised 15,1 billion USD in funding, marking a 48% drop compared to 2022 and a staggering 72% decline from the 2021 peak. In the first half of 2024, 7,9 billion USD was invested in foodtech, which may indicate the first signs of a rebound.
Moreover, the first half of 2024 saw a significant decrease in early-stage investments. The nominal rebound observed in the first half was therefore driven by later-stage transactions. The persistence of this trend could be concerning, as early-stage investments are crucial for the development of a healthy ecosystem.
It’s also worth noting the funding structure across different foodtech categories. Historically, food delivery startups have been the backbone of the ecosystem, but in 2023, they had the lowest relative share – only 21% of the funds invested in foodtech startups went to companies involved in food delivery.
